North Korean team storm off pitch after flag mix ... - BBC World News

They aren?t known as good neighbours ? and Olympic organisers have been forced to apologise after mixing up the flags of North and South Korea. The screen at Hampden Park shows the wrong flag (Picture: AP/James Crossan) The North Korean women?s football team stormed off the pitch on the opening day of Olympic sport after the South?s flag was displayed ahead of their first match. As players warmed up for their clash against Colombia, a big screen at Hampden Park in Glasgow showed their photos next to the flag of their hated southern neighbour. The team from the communist North ? which fought a bitter war with the South and is ruled by a dictatorship ? walked off in disgust ahead of the scheduled 7.45pm game and it was postponed for more than hour. Olympics organisers had managed to find the North Korean flag for when the teams ran out, but mistakenly displayed the South Korean flag on the big screens (Picture: AP) The squad could only be persuaded to return when the teams were announced again with each player?s face displayed next to the North Korean flag. Many Twitter users said the embarrassing mistake sounded like something from the BBC spoof documentary about the Games, Twenty Twelve. Organisers Locog said: ?We will apologise to the team and steps will be taken to ensure this does not happen again.?
