How Alcohol Addiction Affects The Social And Work Behavior Of A ...

Many people consume alcoholic beverages to feel good and avoid the negative feelings caused by personal problems. Other individuals are also using alcohol to relieve themselves from the stress at work or in school. Alcohol consumers are prone to addiction; however, they are often unaware that they have already built tolerance to the substance and may need to consume more than usual to experience the same effects.

Many people become addicted to alcohol unknowingly. Addiction gravely affects a person physically including people who reside with him, his family, friends, co-workers and social acquaintances. Many experts of treatments for alcohol addiction state that alcoholics are often observed to have problems at work and family.

In most cases, alcoholics will deny their drinking problem because of their fear of losing the job which they rely on to support their family. However, they always fail to realize that their drinking habit has been affecting their performances in the job, causing higher rate of absences and problems with their co-workers. According to experts of treatments for alcohol addiction, if professional help is not sought immediately, addicts will end up losing their employment. Depending on the kind of job they are engaged in, heavy drinking can also expose the working site to various accidents and injuries.

For many employers, it can be difficult to discipline an employee who does not drink on the job. Those who sense the problem can approach the addict and ask few questions and offer to help him. However, without concrete evidence which can prove that he is addicted to alcohol, he may never admit that he has a problem at all. Alcoholics normally have difficulty in concentrating leading to poor job evaluations, increasing errors and incomplete assignments. These behaviors can spell trouble to the addict giving reasons for the company to file him a suspension.

Alcohol abusers usually display inappropriate conduct and sometimes out-of- control social behavior. They may start to make arguments and walk out from someone who will argue with them. Usually when people annoy an abuser, a potential fight can occur. They are at risk of breaking family relationships and close friendship. Their violent behaviors often put them and other people's lives at risk.

If an abuser does not seek help at an early stage of his addiction, overtime his health will be affected. This will leave his family caring for a sick alcoholic who is at risk of premature death. So, family members are advised to help their addicted loved ones seek medication as soon as possible.
